Like most people, I avoid tension.
I’m not even aware I’m doing it, most of the time. Unless I’m paying close attention to my thoughts, I’d duck it like two months of home office.
I think our instinct is to gravitate toward the stuff that brings order and clarity into our lives.
Well, tension surely isn’t.
Two things, though. I’ve noticed that sharing what excites me always makes my enthusiasm (a.k.a. positive tension) drop, along with uneasiness.
And also, the Universe keeps texting me about the upside of tension. Those last few days, I was reminded that the balance between tension and release is exactly what makes great music and cinema fascinating. Even stand-up comedy.
All storytelling in about tension and release. We’re all there for the release but…
No tension, no release.
So I guess I’ll practice staying with the feeling. It might as well help me understand great music better. Like that song where the guy plays the guitar and he sings, too.
Genius.
