I heard Alan Watts say that thinking is just talking to yourself.
This would mean I’m talking to myself all the time.
But what am I saying? Am I even conscious of it? Because that narrative dictates the way I see myself and the world.
Our thoughts are statements about what we think is true and real and many of them are written for us by others, our culture and our environment. Who knows how many limiting beliefs I hold that are not even mine?
But if I’m the one thinking the thoughts, then I’m the writer of that narrative.
I can edit the narrative to empower myself.
I just have to start paying attention to my thoughts to see what I hold to be true. Especially when the statements have “I” or “me” in them. That’s my identity and I should have an active say in it.
If I’m the writer of my own identity, I’d like to write a better me. To upgrade my code like Maeve did with herself in Westworld.
