I started reading Dune this week, my first fiction book in ages.
I rarely do anything that’s not directly useful and educating. That’s exactly why I need to read more fiction.
To no one’s surprise, I’ve been underlining sentences as usual. Yet, it doesn’t feel like thinking – just noticing how characters think.
There was and idea early on in the book that opened my eyes particularly well:
“A process cannot be understood by stopping it. Understanding must move with the flow of the process. Join it and flow with it.”
What a reminder about art… Music and cinema are pure flow. Dissecting them hardly leads to insights.
